Buddies Without Borders Online Forum participants who stepped up to support their teammates and collaborate across the world earned the privilege to launch BWB Clubs in their schools to design, initiate and roll out Local Action Projects that meet Global Goals. This is what we have accomplished as of July 2023.
Throughout the summer break, people around the world had the opportunity to review these Local Actions and vote for their favorite projects, and the results are here. It is our honor today to announce that the BWB Club in Vali Muammer Guler Sosyal Bilimler Lisesi (VMGSB, Turkey) has received the most votes for their fundraiser event which raised money for children who suffered from one of the most devastating earthquakes that affected more than 13 million people in February 2023 in Turkey.
This effort is led by students Ayse Nisa Palabiyikli and Ayse Betül Argın, and moderated by English Teacher Mr. Ozkan Akdugan:
"Around this time last year, we were presented with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Completing the Forum led to a scholarship, allowing us to establish the first-ever BWB Club at our school. As a united club, we poured our hearts into our work, approaching every task with love and care for others. Despite our original plans, an earthquake struck our country earlier this year. We adapted and decided to bring a bit of joy to the children and families affected by the disaster through a bake sale. As a team, we executed our plans wonderfully. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to everyone who collaborated with us along the way, spreading happiness. Lastly, I am thankful for this and we are so grateful for having the opportunity to continue on our club work." ~ Ayse Betül Argın and Ayse Nisa Palabiyikli
"BWB Clubs showed no matter how far we live from one another we could exchange our thoughts and ideas and have the opportunity to get together online, look at the world’s problems from different perspectives. Our school is a social sciences high school and the BWB Club's activities improved my students’ knowledge in different areas. My students also have become much more experienced by studying different Sustainable Development Goals. Thanks to BWB Club I have many club president candidates who would like to lead the Club next year. I would like to congratulate all my students for their hard work and I am really grateful to them for their great effort." ~ Club Moderator, English Teacher, Özkan Akduğan
It is noteworthy that BWB Clubs from Towheed Iranian School (UAE), Green Bay School (New Zealand), Shonan Shiyaruri High School (Japan), and Alejandra Gonzalez Muller, our BWB Club Coordinator (Bolivia) also sent their love and solidarity. (BWB Video Message)
