The Butterfly Effect

Everything we do has an impact. It may not be apparent and may not be immediate, but it does change the world. The butterfly effect of small but wonderful actions may lead to a better future for us all.

Starting this weekend, teens in the Local Actions for Global Goals Buddies Without Borders Online Forum will look at their current environments and systems through the lens of Sustainable Development Goals, and design actionable local action plans to make the world a better place.

We asked them why they wanted to be part of this effort, and their answers touched us deeply.  Here are a few to share with you:

"In a divided world like this, where the oligarchs are preventing global success, it must unfortunately be accepted that a government under their influence cannot help much. But this is where communities shine. The people of the world have achieved many incredible goals without the presence of a ruling figure, and it must be known to all that we can achieve anything if we work together." ~ M. Morseli, Turkey

"As a young person, it can feel like all I can do is simply work and wait to be in a position of power, and there’s not much I can do to impact the world as it stands. I feel that this forum will teach me how to harness my motivation into actions that can be productive and useful to my cause, and are feasible for me to execute in my current life." ~ K. Karippail, New Zealand

"my relative...fought leukemia while living in India. Because of the distance, I couldn’t help her in the ways I wanted to, and that helplessness stayed with me. I promised myself that if I couldn’t support her directly, I would do everything I could to help others going through similar battles near me." ~ S. Sriram, USA

"Growing up, I’ve seen the negative effects of pollution on local water bodies and ecosystems, and I feel a personal responsibility to act. Schools are ideal starting points for change, as they shape the habits and values of future leaders." ~ E. Baiden, Ghana

At Global Education Destinations, we believe that peace, empathy and happiness are experienced through actions, not achieved through exams. Please join us in welcoming all the buddies as they embark on this experiential learning journey.
